Less is more: Dare to go bare.

Makeup has been around for hundreds of centuries and is used by thousands of people around the world. Although makeup is considered a form of art, it can be conceptualized as an idea of a façade for self-esteem. The idea of makeup holds a different perception for everyone. What takes away from makeup being an artform is the intention. Wearing makeup is a choice, whether it’s for fun or enticing to see what look can be created, but to wake up each morning and think to yourself you NEED to wear makeup and live up to societal trends is mentally draining. What society is missing out on is the essence of skincare, and how to improve a healthy relationship with their skin. If one was to focus on taking care of their skin, it would help them in regard to building that confidence of not feeling the need to wear makeup or wearing it every day excessively. The beauty industry has multiple trends taking over that may cause pressure to look a certain way or create a habit of becoming dependent on makeup. There should be one timeless trend to make one love the skin they’re in — which is embracing natural beauty.

Natural beauty in this day and age has become underrated. Someone who may enjoy wearing makeup based on their mood, artistic feelings or wanting to create a soft look can be shunned for when they do decide to embrace their bare face. Natural beauty should be considered a timeless trend because no one should be put down based on not looking a certain way.

For centuries the media’s ‘beauty culture’ and ‘ideal beauty’ have shifted over time. In a society that idolizes ‘perfect beauty’ rather than real beauty, culture has become obsessed with cosmetical enhancements. In other words, Botox and fillers. Natural beauty will always be timeless because it never goes out of style. Rather focusing on how to live up to the everchanging makeup standards, how about minimizing makeup consumption and allowing your skin to breathe. Comfort comes with time and to be able to trust the process on improving your skin’s health. Although makeup enhances one’s features, a proper skincare routine saves your skin for decades
to come.

Ultimately less is more, there is no need for thousands of skincare products, just like there is no need for thousands of makeup products. The minimalist approach is the best thing that could happen for your skin. On the bright side — financially and timewise — the less is more journey can start right from the comfort of your home with ingredients derived from the kitchen. This way splurging thousands of dollars will be a thing of the past. The fewer ingredients that are used for your skin, the better. Natural ingredients are not as strong as a product that contains chemicals but will rather be highly skincare friendly and will pay off with consistent use.

We are only born with one skin. With that being said, it’s the largest organ of the human body. Instead of caring how we look like all the time, can we step back, and finally for once, dare to go bare, breathe, and learn to love ourselves within? Before you begin to trust this journey, celebrate yourself, and what you were born with. Create your timeless trend by embracing your imperfections and being you while taking care of your mind, body, and soul.
